Client Requirement Applegreen’s motorway service stations were experiencing persistent mobile phone signal issues inside the buildings. Customers and staff regularly reported poor or non-existent mobile coverage. Visitors to Applegreen increasingly spend longer periods on-site availing of a growing range of food and hospitality services,and reliable mobile connectivity has become an essential part of the experience.
Applegreen required a multi-carrier GSM and mobile signal boosting solution that would deliver consistent indoor coverage for all major mobile networks, while operating seamlessly within 24/7 environments without disrupting business operations.
Solution Delivered VEI Global delivered a full in-building GSM and mobile signal boosting solution tailored to Applegreen’s motorway service stations. Following a detailed on-site RF and spectrum analysis, our engineers identified that high insulation levels and metal-framed construction were severely attenuating mobile signals.
Using spectrum analysers, VEI Global identified the optimal placement for external roof-mounted donor antennas, capable of receiving signals from all mobile carriers. These signals were fed into a central repeater system, then distributed evenly throughout the building using six strategically positioned internal antennas.
The solution ensured balanced, high-quality signal distribution across all networks, eliminating dead zones and ensuring consistent mobile coverage throughout the complex.
VEI Global provided full design documentation, including RF heat maps, coverage predictions, and cable routing plans, prior to installation. As the service stations operate 24/7, deployment schedules were carefully coordinated with local management teams to minimise disruption.
Installation required specialist access equipment, including lifts to reach ceiling beams for antenna placement. Post-installation testing confirmed strong, stable mobile signal levels across all carriers.
Once commissioned, the system was handed over to VEI Global’s managed support team, enabling real-time performance monitoring, remote optimisation, and rapid engineer dispatch if required.

THE IMPLEMENTED SOLUTION
